What is The Rogovoy Report?

The Rogovoy Report is an opinionated and radically curated weekly digest of news and features from around the corner to around the globe. It includes links to news articles, essays, features, opinion pieces, and reviews culled from publications around the world. I comb the Internet all week for the best and most interesting and provocative articles so you don’t have to.

The Rogovoy Report digest is typically published on Sundays. Topics covered include Must Reading, Arts & Entertainment, Wellness, Politics, and the ever-popular Food & Dining section. The Rogovoy Report also includes news highlights from the Berkshires and the Hudson Valley, for those wanting to keep abreast of trends, developments, and happenings in those regions.

The Rogovoy Report also includes a separate, weekly preview of upcoming cultural events in the greater Berkshire and Hudson Valley region. Typically published on Tuesdays, the cultural preview serves as a companion to my weekly radio segment, The Rogovoy Report, aired on the WAMC Northeast Public Radio Network on Fridays at 12:50pm or so.

(I am exploring the possibility of breaking The Rogovoy Report weekly digest and The Rogovoy Report cultural preview into two separate newsletters, for those who only have interest in one or the other.)

The Rogovoy Report has roots dating back to similar newsletters called Berkshire Daily and Berkshire Weekend that I created and compiled as editor-in-chief of the late, lamented, award-winning Berkshire Living magazine, back in 2009 or so.

Anyone can receive The Rogovoy Report just by signing up. The Rogovoy Report is an ad-free, reader-supported publication, so optional paid subscriptions are greatly appreciated.

Who is Seth Rogovoy?

I am a freelance writer, book author, cultural critic, columnist, radio commentator, and producer.

My books include Bob Dylan: Prophet Mystic Poet (Scribner, 2009) and The Essential Klezmer: A Music Lover’s Guide to Jewish Roots and Soul Music (Algonquin, 2000). My next book is Within You Without You: Listening to George Harrison, due from Oxford University Press in early 2024.

For more than three decades, my work has appeared in the English-language national Jewish newsweekly, the Forward, where I am a contributing editor.

I was a co-founder and editor-in-chief of Berkshire Living, a culture and lifestyle magazine, for its entire run from 2004 to 2011. For sixteen years before that, I served as the Berkshire Eagle’s popular music critic, writing about rock, jazz, folk, world music and other related topics.

What do I get with a paid subscription?

The Rogovoy Report is an ad-free, reader-supported publication. A basic subscription to The Rogovoy Report is free to anyone who signs up. Those who opt for a paid subscription to The Rogovoy Report help to defray the expenses I incur to produce the biweekly newsletter, which include newspaper and magazine subscriptions plus the time and effort it takes to create the newsletter. Paid subscribers also have the ability to leave comments on any and every post.

A paid subscription is one way to let me know that you value my work. Subscriptions start at $5/month. Those choosing the annual $100 option are considered Founding Members, and are included in the Honor Roll at the bottom of every issue.

What about the companion newsletter, Everything Is Broken?

In addition to The Rogovoy Report, I also have an entirely separate Substack newsletter called Everything Is Broken, dedicated entirely to my original writing on a host of topics, including reviews of movies, books, music, and TV programs, plus occasional essays, rants, manifestos, and whatever else I wind up writing. Please click here to subscribe to Everything Is Broken.
